Rail disruption for station modernisation

Work to modernise Bath Spa station will begin from 8th April and run until 23rd April.

The work is to modernise the station in preparation for longer trains entering service later in the year, platforms will be made wider and the stepping distance between the train and the platform edge reduced.

There will be some changes to the timetable, including some routes having a changed or reduced service, so please check before you travel.

During the week, popular services, such as Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington trains will run hourly, but some trains will be diverted and will not call at Bath and Chippenham, please check your tickets before travelling. The Cardiff, Portsmouth and Westbury services will remain hourly and TrainsWilts service will run as normal, but there will be a reduced service on South West Trains.

From Monday, 10th until Thursday, 13th April, all trains will depart from Platform 2 and Tuesday, 18th to Friday, 21st April all trains will depart from Platform 1.

Over the weekends of 8th to 9th April, over Easter (14th to 17th April) and 22nd to 23rd April, there will be no trains through Bath Spa station, trains may be diverted and

replacement buses will be available for some routes.

These include services between Portsmouth and Cardiff, the service will run between Portsmouth and Swindon, with customers able to change at Swindon for connecting services, trains that normally run from Weymouth and Temple Meads will run between Weymouth and Westbury and a shuttle service will be in place between Temple Meads and Cardiff Central.

There will also be replacement buses between Bath Spa and the following stations: Bristol Temple Meads, Chippenham, Trowbridge, Westbury, Frome, Oldfield Park, Keynsham and Bradford on Avon (calling at Freshford and Westwood for Avoncliff). There will also be a regular replacement service between Castle Cary and Temple Meads to connect with the Weymouth service.
