The sun is shining at Farrington Park!

By Leah Smith in Golf

Now we have more daylight than we know what to do with, it’s almost enjoyable – if only for a bit of sunshine!

Still it is only April after all. The Seniors Texas Scramble six drives each. Now some like to get their six over with as soon as possible. Others like the glory of always wanting the 18th as their last drive – lunacy! Especially if you mess it up.

There was a fine turnout of 28 players competing for the Parker Shield who were rewarded with superb weather and a course in great condition and playing to its full length. Some excellent scoring provided drama to the end. However, Margaret Seery and Dave Forshaw, who are previous winners of the trophy, were having none of it and were resounding winners with a score of 45 points, some five points clear of their nearest rivals. With 22 players enjoying the delights of a Sunday carvery and the occasional glass of wine, a convivial time was had by all. Following the presentation, the draw for the Davies Cooler was made, throwing up some interesting matches. In the first round defending champions, Clare Salter and Jon ‘Ely’ Calway are drawn against Tracy and Fred Grist – bound to be a quiet encounter then! Our next Trophy Competition is the Triples Trophy, one lady, one man and one junior. Get your name down – the more the merrier!

Ladies

Ladies’ Thursday morning on 30th March was another fine sunny uplifting Spring day. The thoughts of summer golf and better scores were slightly hampered by the heavy wet ground and breezy conditions. 38 ladies took part in the Stableford competition on the shortened course that will be resuming to the full Standard Scratch length in April. This long awaited opportunity for the ladies to focus on achieving lower handicaps in the qualifying competitions, will be greatly appreciated.

In first place, with an excellent 39 points, was Lally Gibson, in second was Carol King, with 37 points on countback, third was Linda Rogers, also with 37 points, fourth was Clare Salter, with 36 points on countback and fifth was Terri O’Shea, also with 36 points.
