Wow, what a start to the 2017 season at Norwest Bowls Club! It was brilliant to see so many of you out on the green on Monday for our first Open Evening. We were very lucky with the weather, and thanks to the hard work of our green keeping team, the green was playing really well.
Along with lots of members brushing up their skills after the winter break, it was good to see several members back after a year off due to ill health and best of all, quite a few new faces. I don’t think we’ve ever had such a busy first evening, so fingers crossed, this brilliant start may continue throughout the season. I must say though, that after watching some of the newbies play, I think I’d better get out onto that green and polish up my act!
Unfortunately, some of the shine was taken from the start of the new season when we heard the sad news of the death of Ernie Witcombe. Ernie was a member of Norwest for many years and he loved his bowls. He was a ‘one off’, a real character and much loved – both on and off the green, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Marian and his family at this time.
Just a reminder for our Men. The sheet for the game on Saturday, 22nd April, away to Frys’ is up on the noticeboard, but we need more names. Come on, don’t make our Captain and Vice-Captain beg this early in the season! If there aren’t enough Men on the list, they might be forced to look to the Ladies! And finally, don’t forget Presidents’ Day this Sunday, 23rd April. The wooden spoons are waiting!
