Victoria Hall Radstock is inviting audiences to a Weekend at the Oscars with screenings of award winning films La La Land (12A) on Saturday, 20th May at 7.30 p.m. and Manchester by the Sea (15) on Sunday, 21st May at 7.30 p.m.
Both films received a host of nominations at the recent 89th Academy Awards with La La Land scooping six wins for Best Director, Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Original Song (City of Stars) and Best Production Design; and Manchester by the Sea winning for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor (Casey Affleck).
La La Land tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in Los Angeles, a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Directed by Damien Chazelle, this modern take on the Hollywood musical explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams and has been a smash hit at cinemas.
In Manchester by the Sea, a depressed uncle (Casey Affleck) is asked to look after his teenage nephew after his father’s death. Reluctantly returning to Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fishing village where his working-class family has lived for generations, he is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife and the community where he was born and raised. Masterfully told and beautifully acted, this incredible piece of cinema has delighted critics and audiences alike.
The weekend has been made possible by funding from Radstock Town Council.
