Paulton quietly optimistic for future

By Leah Smith in Bowls

Things have gone a little quiet at Paulton Bowls Club over the last week or so. There were only a couple of games against other clubs, although there were county competition games for several of the members.

The Mid-Somerset League got off to a start, with Paulton playing a home game against Norwest. Paulton were always behind in the game and only managed to win on one of the four rinks. However, with several brand new members in the team, it was encouraging to have a full team on the evening.

Paulton’s Ladies suffered another defeat in the Wild League; this time to Castle Cary, at their green. Like the Men, the Ladies were never close, but continue to improve performances, compared with last season.

In the County competitions, there were mixed results for Paulton’s Men. The triple of Dave Bear, Bob Gay and Chris Ponting lost a tight game to an Alexandra Park trio, with the game going to the last end. Another Paulton triple of Steve Chivers, Tony Sparks and Bob Richards went the same way to a triple from Wrington. There was better news, however, with Bob Richards going in to Bloomfield to defeat much-heralded Kevin Jones in the singles, 21–19. Bob Richards was also involved in a Pairs victory, with Martyn May, over another Bloomfield pair.

The week ahead sees more Mixed games for the club and with the new bowlers this season now finding their feet, things should look much brighter.
