One reader has written in to our letters column regarding the recent parking charge proposals for the Somer Valley.

It would seem that B&NES is intent on finally killing off small business trade in the town. These businesses are already struggling to survive under high business rates, energy charges etc, they do not need this added obstacle that will affect town footfall.

B&NES should be looking internally to their operations, e.g cancel vanity and diversity projects, ineffective and unnecessary speed restrictions etc. Their remit is not to conduct social engineering but to provide services for the hard pressed Council Tax subscriber.

Further, the excessively generous, six figure salaries, plus expenses paid to executives should be curbed.
