Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information as to the circumstances in which a man, found seriously injured on a roadside near Gurney Slade, came to be at the location.
The man, aged in his 30s, is believed to have been taken from Redwood Close in Radstock, before being assaulted and left on the B3135, Plummers Lane.
The incident happened between 6pm and 6.30pm on Monday, 27th November.
Detective Inspector Adam Bunting said: “This is a disturbing incident, in which a man needed hospital treatment for a number of significant injuries.
“Our investigation is at an early stage, and we need the public’s help to build a clear picture of what happened.
“We understand the victim was forced into a vehicle by a number of men from outside his own home and then subjected to a vicious assault with weapons.
“We’re subsequently keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the man being taken from Redwood Close.
“Did you see a disturbance on the street? Did you notice a group of men or any individuals acting suspiciously?
“If anyone has any information I’d urge them to contact 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5217272234.”
