After a dramatic day in the town, the huge fire that broke out on Friday morning at the Hall Metal scrapyard in Radstock is now under control.

Great plumes of black smoke filled the air after a fire broke out, reportedly whilst a car was being worked on at the scrapyard. The fire then spread to over 140 vehicles, with spectators watching the flames and witnessing small explosions as the motors burst into flame.

Fire crews and police were quickly on the scene but had difficulty getting the huge blaze under control, with Bristol Water tweeting later in the afternoon that the town was heading for a water shortage due to the amounts that had been needed to tackle the fire.

On Friday evening the fire service was reporting that the blaze was under control, with crews in the process of lifting each vehicle individually to dampen down and make sure the fire is fully out.
