Lockdown has been tough on everyone, this this week we heard from St Mary’s School, Writhlington with a story to warm everyone’s hearts!

St Mary’s Primary School received a welcome surprise last week when a box containing Lockdown Buddy Bears was delivered to the front door.

The bears were sent out to every child who attends the primary school and nursery, all to send a very important message: that the children are missed! Ms Cathie Lampert, headteacher of the school, said: “They are still part of the St Mary’s family and they have been amazing through these tricky times.

“Children loved receiving their bears and these furry friends have played a part in all live teaching sessions this week.

“The parents at St Mary’s are always so positive about the school and have been brilliant in supporting their children during remote learning – not an easy task.”

Miss Lampert shared a poem written by a parent and pupil of the school, in dedication to the staff who have been working tirelessly to keep the children motivated in such trying times:

Doors have been closed, then opened, now closed again, our school holiday that didn’t end.

Now a new way of learning, no classrooms or desks, Online we go, no time for sound checks!

But bright each morning, our screens turn on, your encouraging faces, bright, no sign of a yawn.

We listen close, your smiles reassuring. For 30 minutes each day, your words are curing.

We’ve cried and we’ve laughed, we’ve sent wishes on fairies, to be together again, with our family at St. Mary’s.

Whilst we wait a little longer, we have one more word to say, thank you for all that you do, our teachers, we cheer you - Hip Hip Hooray!

A poem in celebration of teachers, but a message for all those in our community, you are doing great!
