The first main club competition of the year at Wells Golf Club took place on Saturday and we were delighted to be able to use the full 18 holes for one of the first days this year to run the Club Bowmaker Waltz.
Over fifty players tee’d off in 3-balls on a crisp, cold, calm and grey (but thankfully dry) morning and although the course was still muddy in places, there were no reports of any mud-sliding incidents.
The results were as follows:
First – David Holland, William Holland and Robert Holland – 82 points.
Second – David Cunningham, Jason Sykes and Dale Killey – 81 points.
Third – Robert Swift, David Baker and Simon Jackson – 80 points.
It was a good weekend for the Holland family as Dave and Will then proceeded to win a keenly contested winter foursomes knockout match on Sunday as well.
Wells Ladies held their annual dinner last week. A glass of prosecco on arrival from the Ladies’ Captain, Katrina Foote, ensured a good start to the evening. Ladies then sat down to a delicious three course meal followed by a game of ‘Would I lie to you?’ over coffee and mints.
There were some impressive ‘truths’ that were discovered about Wells’ Ladies, which included speaking Japanese, advising Bernhard Langer on how to play a golf shot and being given a live monkey by a nun! The evening was great fun and kicked off the 2022 events calendar.
A big thank you to the Wells catering team, led by Alan, who are building an impressive reputation for excellent food.
