There were very spooky goings-on last week, as members of the new Camerton Community Hall Committee invited the whole village to a Halloween party that attracted the creatures of the night to turn out en masse, including our very special guest and star, featured in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Anthony Head.
The ‘zombie’ and ‘alien’ car park attendants were so convincing, that they almost frightened anyone wanting to come away! They played their roles so well and were rewarded with a ‘Bafta’ from our special judge, Anthony.
We also had a spooky disco run by the Horror Groom, the most amazing variety of scary food donated by the whole community, and pumpkins galore, hand-carved by our Chairman, now known as the ‘Master Carver’.
The hall was decked-out with giant spiders on the ceiling and many other scary characters. We have never seen so many children dress up – and it was good to see them playing and enjoying the old-fashioned games; it gave us so much pleasure to see children and adults taking part in apple bobbing, ‘Try and eat the donut’, and the best ‘Mummy’ and pumpkin competitions.
Judging the different ages of the fancy dress competition was a very difficult task, as everyone that took part looked so good. Anthony did us proud and was a great judge.
I would like to say, on behalf of all the committee members, a huge thank you to everyone who helped provide food and decorations, and gave their time helping out with so many different tasks – we appreciate that we could not have pulled this event off without your help.
It is a pleasure to be part of a committee that is trying so hard to save Camerton Community Hall, to make people aware that we have a hall to be proud of. It was wonderful to see everyone having fun, see smiling faces, and to hear the laughter. It was a night we shall never forget; and we shall see you all again next Halloween!
The next event at Camerton Community Hall is the Camerton Winter Talks/Films ‘Somerset Mining Memories: Told by the men and women who lived it’, on Friday, 17th November at 7 p.m.
