All the fun of Midsomer Norton Fayre will return this Saturday, between 12 noon and 5 p.m. – and the whole town is getting behind the event to help make it a success. Indeed, it is hard to find a section of the community which isn't doing something to contribute to this much-loved event.

The main event, where all activities will be free thanks to the sponsorship from Midsomer Norton Town Council, will take place in and around the Skate and Adventure Play Park. The road will be closed to traffic beyond the entrance to the Sports Centre, which will be open for business as usual. This means there will be plenty of space for the Fayre, whilst at the same time allowing the High Street to be kept fully open so businesses can trade as normal.

Opening with the Duck Race run by the Lions at 12 noon, the Fayre will begin with the Midsomer Norton Maypole Festival, which will take place outside the Somer Centre. Gullock Tyning itself will be lined with nearly thirty community stalls – promoting their organisations and offering a range of things to buy and activities to take part in. The Maypole Festival will conclude with a chance for the audience to 'take up a ribbon and have a go' session, before trophies and medals are awarded to teams.

Following the Maypole Festival will be a range of live dance displays in the Fayre Arena, outside the Somer Centre, backed with lots of free activities to choose from. There's the Princess Party in the Marquee, balloon modelling, craft workshops, improvised drumming workshop, live theatre performances, four bouncy castles, an art and photographic exhibition, face painting and Punch and Judy performances. There will also be a street organ, brass band and piano and flute performances in the Victorian Tea Rooms, in the Somer Centre.

With the town having one of the finest Skate Parks in the country, we have the perfect venue for a Skate Jam, which is being run by the Manic Skaterz. Competitions beginning at 1 p.m. will give the whole community a chance to see some amazing skating techniques, with awards across a range of competition categories.

Meanwhile, the judging of the Town Show will be taking place of all the entries in the massive 810 square metre Town Show Marquee. It's not too late to enter one of the seven sections of Vegetables, Flowers, Cookery, Men Only Cookery, Handicrafts, Photography and Art and Children's Entries. Visit the Town Hall or Library for an entry form or download one from the Community Trust's website (see below). Entries can be brought along on Friday evening, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., or on the day, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The Marquee will be closed for judging at 10.30 a.m. – reopening at 12.30 p.m. The results will be shown on the tables with the Grand Trophy Presentations at 4 p.m. Also in the marquee will be a display of 'Midsomer Norton Past and Present', prepared by the Midsomer Norton Society and the Town Council.

High Street shopkeepers have also joined in with a shop window competition on the theme of 'All the fun of the Fayre' and judging will take place this week.
