St Julian’s in Wellow held its annual Duck Race recently to raise funding for the school.

Children and their parents enjoyed an exciting trip to the Ford in the village, a popular local spot for walks, family outings and the occasional paddle!

The event, organised by the St Julian’s PTA, also featured children performing a traditional maypole dance, a selection of country dances and a repeat of their recent school Dance Umbrella performances. A wonderful buffet was donated by the school’s parents and PTA. Teachers ‘fired up’ the pizza oven, rolling out delicious hot pizzas throughout the night.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “Thanks to all the parents and children who came along to support our annual Duck Race at Wellow Ford. It was a fantastic evening with activities for the whole family. The commitment of the school’s PTA allowed us to raise £1,750, which will go towards much needed funding for the children’s education.”

The evening included a raffle, teddy tombola and an inflatable bouncing slide for the children. Ruth added: “The finale of the evening was everyone making their way to the village Ford with the anticipation and excitement of which duck would arrive first to win the race. Many of the children were brave souls and played around in the shallow areas. Not deterred by the cold weather, they took their socks and shoes off and jumped right in!”
