Dance instructor, Azlee Manley, who runs classes at Writhlington Sports Centre, will be swapping her dancing shoes for trainers and a set of wheels as she prepares for a trip of a lifetime raising money for charity.
Azlee said: “I am taking on the epic journey of cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia in 2017, all in aid of Women V Cancer. “Cancer has affected my family, sadly, just as it has affected most families these days, and I have made it my personal mission to raise as much as I possibly can for Women V Cancer.”
Azlee has teamed up with the organisation, Action for Charity, to take part in a
cycling challenge starting in Vietnam on 6th February 2017 and ending in Cambodia on 17th February. She is set to cover 450km over the two week period of the trip.
Azlee is hoping to raise money for three charities specialising in cancer care: Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, Ovarian Cancer Action and Breast Cancer Care.
She said: “I will donate my tour costs myself, so hope to raise around £4,000 which would be absolutely amazing. For training, I am cycling as much as possible and will sign up for rides in England over the summer and hope to do a four-day cycle break in France or Spain. I am already signed up for the Coast2Coast in June, where I will cycle 150 miles across the country in one day!”
To help with fundraising for the trip, Azlee and her colleagues at Writhlington Sports Centre have organised a dance show, taking place on Friday, 19th and Saturday, 20th February this year. Money raised from ticket sales will be going towards Azlee’s chosen charities.
She said: “This is our first ever show and as you can imagine, we are very excited! So far from ticket sales alone we have raised roughly £1,200! And hopefully this will increase. This is a huge event and has taken months of planning.”
