Congratulations to Ken and Pauline Baker, who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Christmas Eve.

Ken says: “Pauline and I met at Wansdyke Shoe Factory. Pauline was a Bath girl and I was a country lad; one of five children, I was born on 1st of June 1934. I grew up on a farm, and worked on it until I decided to join up. I was in the Second Battalion of the Coldstream Guards.

“Pauline and I married on Christmas Eve 1968 at Clutton Registry office. We have lived in Paulton for all of our married life.

“My hobbies included being a keen gardener, and Pauline’s was dressmaking. As an eighteen-year-old, she had a recording contract to sing with the Ted Heath band, but her parents refused to give their permission.

“She is one of three and has a twin sister; both worked at Clark’s shoes. Pauline also worked at Mulberry Bags, which she loved. I unfortunately had a serious accident and became an amputee.

“We celebrated our Anniversary at the Charlton House Hotel, Shepton Mallet.”
