Tributes and Books of Condolence have been placed both in Weston and Bath Central Library after a tragic accident involving a tipper truck on Lansdown Lane claimed the lives of four people on Monday afternoon.Those who died include a four-year-old girl and three men. Church services have been held and tributes made by a community in shock.
Weston All Saints Primary School remained closed on Tuesday, while police continued to investigate the area, but was due to reopen on Wednesday as The Journal went to press.
Anne Bull, Headteacher at Weston All Saints, said: "On behalf of the school community, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who died. We also send our best wishes to the people that have been injured. This is a truly shocking event that has been deeply felt by the local community.
"We decided to close the school today [Tuesday] out of respect, but anticipate pupils returning tomorrow [Wednesday]. We will be supporting any children that need bereavement counselling, as some pupils may have been affected because this accident took place so near to the school.
"The Moravian Church has offered for floral tributes to be placed next to the memorial tree, which is also part of Weston Free Church.
"Bath and North East Somerset Council have placed Books of Condolences in Weston Library and Bath Library, as a more permanent way for people to show their respects. Weston Library will open Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this week."
Police investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
