Great British Bake Off judge, Mary Berry, is joining school children in Bath this morning to ensure the city’s Parade Gardens are blooming next Spring.

Mary Berry, who is from Bath and well known for her role on the BBC television series, helped pupils from Widcombe Junior School’s garden club to plant Alkmaar Dutch tulips in the flag flower bed in the Parade Gardens.

Councillor Martin Veal, Bath and North East Somerset Council Cabinet member for Community Services said: “It’s a busy time of year for the Council’s parks team as they begin their planting programme to ensure all the parks and green spaces across Bath and North East Somerset look their best come the spring.

“As a former Widcombe Junior School pupil myself, I’m pleased that Mary Berry is joining the schoolchildren to help them with the tulips. I am sure they will enjoy meeting her and this project will help to further encourage their interest in gardening and the outdoors.

“We are very fortunate to have many wonderful parks and green spaces across the district and it’s great to see young people playing an important part in their upkeep.”

Hannah Smyth is a teacher at Widcombe Junior School. She said: “We are really excited that the children have this opportunity to go into the community and share their love of gardening and give something back.”
