On Saturday, The Rec, Farmborough, will be host to the Pig ‘n’ Perry Sausage Sizzle, the second Community BBQ and Family Fun Day in Farmborough, at The Rec, Farmborough. The event will be in support of the forthcoming Farmborough Community Shop, taking place from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
The Farmborough Community Shop is planned for opening behind the Farmborough Memorial Hall at the end of 2017, and the fundraiser is being tipped as: "an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbours and make new friends, with lots of family games to play including Skittles, Giant Connect Four, Giant Twister, Splat the Rat, Coconut Shy, Egg Throwing Competition and more!"
Local fundraising has raised almost £39,000 towards the community-funding target of £50,000, which will be added to LEADER programme funding of around £75,000, and cover the additional funding needed to build, fit out, and stock the shop.
A second share offer is currently open, encouraging local residents and businesses to become a member of the shop.
A further fundraising event will be held on 30 September – The Big Family Apple Day – where local people are invited to bring their apples and pears for pressing and juicing. It will be a festival of fruit!
On Saturday, there will also be plenty of information about how the public can help and support the community shop, as well as a raffle with prizes including a meal for two at both the Seven Stars (Timsbury), and the New Inn (Farmborough).
Local suppliers for the event include Willow Farm Gourmet, Tunley Farm Butchers, Maisey’s Bakery, The Tiny Welly Boot Vineyard, and Timmy’s Chillies.
