Here at St Nicholas we have reached that period, yet again, when we are facing an average of eleven months without the support, guidance and Spiritual leadership of our own incumbent, following the retirement of Reverend David, whose presence amongst us is already being missed.

These vacancies or inter-regnums can be particularly challenging for both the congregation and the Churchwardens and other people involved with the administration of the day-to-day running of the Church, however, they can also provide opportunities for growth, bonding and involvement from sometimes unexpected sources.

There is no “I” in team and it is at times like these that we really need to pull together, encourage one another and do our part to ensure the smoothest possible transition to the next chapter in the life of our Church.

We will shortly, with the assistance of our Archdeacon, be compiling a Parish Profile, advertising our vacancy which we all hope and pray will attract a suitable candidate who would be willing to lead us forward into the future.

I would like to thank the retired clergy, readers and curates who have agreed to take services for us already and we will strive to maintain the level of service expected of us within the community.

Finally, I would like to thank Reverend David and his wife for all their support over the last five years and whilst their absence leaves a massive hole in our hearts, we wish them both a long and happy retirement, safe in the knowledge that somewhere out there is someone waiting patiently to come here to fill his rather large boots!
