There was much excitement as Midsomer Norton Primary School celebrated Bike Week last week. The week began with ‘Bling Your Bike or Scooter Day’, with almost 100 children riding or scooting to school on Monday on their ‘blinged-up rides’.

Other events included ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ and ‘Bikers’ Breakfast’ on Friday, when 112 children plus staff enjoyed hot chocolate and brioche to celebrate coming to school by bike, scooter or on foot.

Alun Randell, Headteacher, said: “Not only have our children shown how exercise and healthy lifestyles can fit into daily routines, but we have helped reduce congestion.

“We had so many bikes we almost ran out of space! The school has recently been awarded the first stage of the Director of Public Health Award, recognising the work the school does to promote healthy lifestyles. Our goal is to achieve the full award this year, and we are really pleased that so many of our children, parents and carers took up the challenges this week.”
