B&NES Council is reporting that work to improve the road system in Radstock to support new homes and jobs is on target for completion before May.

Over £1 million was granted to support the

upgrade of the road system in Radstock by central Government, in plans to relieve congestion and pave the way for new homes and jobs on the former railway land.

New pavements are currently being installed along both sides of The Street and pavements on Fortescue Road will follow this week. This should be completed by the end of March and the Council's contractors are working closely with traders to ensure that the work has minimal impact on access to the shops.

Resurfacing of Fortescue Road, The Street, the new link road and part of Frome Road will take place during the week commencing March 23rd. This will take place in the evenings and overnight between 8 p.m. – 6 a.m., in order to reduce the impact on traffic and the community, as various road diversions will be required. The majority of this work should be completed within a week.

Cllr Ben Stevens (Lib-Dem, Widcombe), Bath and North East Somerset Council's Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: "Works have been progressing well in Radstock and we are on target for completion by May 2015.

"We recognise that works have caused some congestion and inconvenience and we'd like to thank people for their patience – in the longer term, this will lead to huge improvements for the town. Radstock is very much open for business and I'd encourage people to ensure they visit the town and use the shops and facilities as usual. This is an exciting project, putting a great deal of investment into Radstock that will improve the roads, bring in new housing and jobs."

A planning application to extend the car park behind the library has also been submitted.
