With all the efforts going to make this year's fortieth anniversary Midsomer Norton Carnival bigger and better than ever before, with a new route and a new day, Monday, 10th November, the call is going out from the Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association for entries to become Carnival Royalty.
There are four roles to fill – the Carnival Queen, Miss Carnival, Carnival Princess and the Carnival Prince.
During their term of office, the Carnival Royalty attend various functions, including Midsomer Norton Carnival (Monday, 10th November), Carnival Presentation Dance (Saturday, 13th December), Midsomer Norton Fayre (Saturday, 11th July) and a range of other functions that arise throughout the year. The Carnival Queen must be 14 years of age or over, prize £100, Miss Carnival, 10–13 years, prize £50, Carnival Princess, 5–9 years, prize £30, and Carnival Prince, 5–14 years, £30. All ages as at 1st October 2014 and in permanent residence within a radius of ten miles of Midsomer Norton.
The process of selecting the Carnival Royalty begins with candidates completing an application form available on the Carnival Association website. Applications are then reviewed by a panel of judges at Prattens. One of the first attendances is for a photoshoot at Reflections Plus, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 7th October for an official photograph.
