The new committee of the Camerton Community Hall are pressing on with their plans to turn around its fortunes, after the threat of closure a couple of months ago.
The hall now has refurbished dressing rooms, and a new PA system is being installed in preparation for the return of the Camerton Fete on Saturday, 29th July, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. This will be the first time the fete hasbeen held for a number of years, and the committee are working hard to make sure it will be a success.
The event will include: Children’s Fancy Dress, Face Painting, Skittle Alley, Coconut Shy, Tug of War, and a Special Parrot Display.
Recently, local villager, John Gould, kindly put on a Rock and Roll dance to help with funds for the centre – what a great night it turned out to be!
John had engaged a great entertainer in Andy Max, who had the rock and rollers on their feet all night; the hall was decorated to perfection with photos around the room of ‘50s and ‘60s pop stars, pride of place went to an eight-foot statue of Marilyn Monroe.
Refreshments were supplied and a special treat of Walls ice cream, which enhanced this terrific evening – there were even vintage cars on view outside.
The Camerton Community Centre looked absolutely tremendous for the evening, all credit must go to John and Diane, a great thank you for raising much needed money for the hall.
In other efforts, Chairman, Clive Turner, helped by his son-in-law, Guy, recently cleared ten tons of brash from the surrounds of the field and the spinney. It was well worth the effort, not only for the creation of a whole new asset for all to enjoy, but also 600-700 square metres of field has been reclaimed, providing possibly a new woodland edge picnic area, as well as the benefit of another football pitch.
There are potentially another twelve car parking spaces when the surface has been scraped and old tarmac removed.
The President of the Mid-Somerset Football League, Bryan Wells, was recently invited along to inspect the refurbished dressing rooms; he was very impressed, saying: “They are better than most senior clubs.”
The committee is determined this much-loved asset for the village of Camerton does not close.
