A Radstock Greyhound and Lurcher rescue charity is making an urgent appeal to find a home for Ned and Nancy, who are currently in its care.
Ned came in to GRWE, Greyhound Rescue West of England’s care from Ireland in November 2015. Sadly, he had to leave his kennel mate of many years, Nancy, behind as she couldn’t make the journey at that time.
Their separation must have been difficult for them to understand as, of course, neither of them knew that GRWE always planned to bring Nancy over to join him when she was ready to travel. Nancy and Ned were reunited in the paddock of GRWE’s kennels near Bath. The dogs were absolutely delighted to see each other and it was a wonderful moment for the charity’s volunteers to witness.
Jan Lake, Trustee of GRWE and also one of the volunteer Homing Officers for the charity, said: “Ned and Nancy are a wonderful pair of dogs with a lot of love to give. They will make great pets for someone and we are searching for a loving home for them both, where they can spend the rest of their lives together. Ned is eight-years-old and Nancy is ten, although she appears much younger and has plenty of spring in her step!”
GRWE are keen to find homes for Ned, Nancy and the other Greyhounds and Lurchers in their care. The organisation believes there has been a reduction in the number of people able to offer homes to rescued dogs as a result of a national change in circumstances. “The economic and housing situation in the UK is now having an effect on dogs like Ned and Nancy,” explains Jan. “More people are in
privately rented accommodation and often pets are not allowed. We have seen a
significant drop in the number of people rehoming dogs in the last few years, with half as many dogs finding new homes this year when compared to 2012.”
