Age UK B&NES is looking for volunteers to ensure a lunch club in Peasedown St John can continue to run.
Pam Wright has retired from running the club after twenty years, and many of the volunteers who have worked with her are also stepping down. Age UK Bath and North East Somerset Chief Executive, Janet Dabbs, presented Pam with flowers at her last lunch club on Monday, 13th June, which was attended by around thirty people.
“Pam and her team have done a remarkable job running a weekly lunch club and I would like to thank them for their work and commitment,” said Janet. “Pam is now passing the reins on to us and we really need new volunteers to help us run the club.”
The charity is looking for at least five volunteers to help out; this would include someone to co-ordinate the club and others to help with cooking, preparing and serving meals and spending time with those who attend. If enough volunteers are found, Age UK B&NES hopes to start running the lunch club once a month from September. In the interim, the local charity is going to take the group out to lunch in a local pub on the second Monday of every month.
Pam said: “It’s been great fun and I’ve really enjoyed it, but the time has come for me to step down, it’s becoming physically more difficult for me, so we desperately need people to take over and help organise the lunch club.”
