Jack (John, Jock) Chalmers was born in Carnoustie Scotland in 1931. He was called up for National service, and stationed at RAF Colerne. Where whilst serving his national service met young lads from Radstock who encouraged him to come out to Radstock Town to play football.
This is where he met his future wife , June Day. June was born in 1932 and brought up in Radstock, daughter to local baker Bert Day (Day & Francis).
Married on 21st June 1953, on a Sunday as it was the only day the bakery closed.
Jack completed an Electrical apprenticeship at Blatchfords, then went on to work at CJ Clarks Westfield for over 30 years. He started J&J Taxis, which he throughly enjoyed until retirement.
June worked at the Radstock Planning Office for a number of years, loved being involved in the Carnival Club, Frome Colts in which she made the costumes. Then went on to be a carnival judge.
June, a wonderful self taught seamstress, often made matching outfits for her daughters, which they wore at family weddings, as well as wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for her daughters too.
With five daughters Cheryl, Shona, Alison, Lindsay, Fiona and a son John, their family kept them busy. They now have 21, Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild.
We feel extremely lucky to still have our parents living in the family home in which we all grew up, and four of their six children actually born in the same house.
We have wonderful memories and are delighted to be able to be celebrating their 70th anniversary.
