A special event is being held in Peasedown St John on Monday, 9th March to mark International Women’s Day.

Organised by the former Chair of B&NES Council, Councillor Karen Walker (Independent, Peasedown St John), the occasion will celebrate the contributions that local women have made to life in the community.

Cllr Karen Walker said: “Two years ago, we marked a huge milestone in the development of women’s rights here in the UK.

“We celebrated the centenary of the first women being given the opportunity to vote in British elections, with events taking place across the UK, including here locally.

“Two years on, and the movement for women’s rights and full equality for both sexes could never have been stronger!”

The afternoon event starts at 2 p.m. at Peasedown St John Community Library, St John’s Close (BA2 8JG).

Any women who would like to attend can telephone: 07968 401447 or email: Karen [email protected].

Fellow Peasedown councillor, Cllr Sarah Bevan (Inde- pendent), added: “This is another great opportunity to celebrate the role of women here in Peasedown St John.

“For at least the last 100 years, women have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and led continuously from the front to make our community a better place.

“Cllr Walker and I certainly feel indebted to the women in Peasedown that have gone before us.”
