On arrival members were entertained by the u3a Uke Group who performed a range of songs and music which was thoroughly enjoyed.

The Tea Party included a wide range of sandwiches, cakes, and scones with cream which were all consumed with relish by those present with plenty left over for “seconds.”

Following on from the refreshments the members were entertained by the u3a Singing Guitars Group who presented a range of songs and tunes over the seventy years of the Queen’s reign.

They followed this session with a medley of popular songs in which members participated with enthusiasm and much flag waving creating a Last Night of the Proms atmosphere with items “Rule Britannia” and a familiar range of Sea Shanties. The final songs were “We are the Champions” and other rousing titles. The afternoon was rounded off by members standing to sing the National Anthem.

The event with “home” entertainment by u3a groups proved exceptionally successful and was an excellent credit to those involved with the organisation and of course the performers.

On the Wednesday, 15th June a u3a group visited Mottisfont Abbey and Gardens near Romsey. The gardens which contain as the main attraction the world-famous enormous collection of old-fashioned roses but also included many unusual perennials and shrubs. The marvellous weather made this a very enjoyable but tiring day out.

The next events for the Group will be the Monthly Tea and Coffee Morning on Monday, 27th June at the Somer Centre from 10.30 a.m. This is a popular event with over eighty members at the May meeting.

The next Speaker meeting is on Monday, 11th July at the Somer Centre from 2 p.m. The speaker will be Brad Ashton who will follow up his Zoom talk last year. Brad is an international comedy scriptwriter for TV and radio with the likes of Tommy Steele, Bruce Forsyth, and Bob Monkhouse to mention just a few.

New members or those who just wish to know more about the u3a are welcome to attend one meeting to speak with members etc.
