One of Great Britain's most well-known bakers is heading to Peasedown St John on Saturday, 13th June to be a part of the village's seventh Party in the Park festival. Award-winning BBC Food Champion of the Year, Richard Bertinet, will be taking part in the festival's first-ever Great Village Bake-Off.
Richard, who founded the Bertinet Kitchen and Bakery in Bath, has written several books, appeared on several TV shows and advises some of the UK's biggest supermarket chains on the production of new products. He said: "It's a huge delight to have been invited to Peasedown's Party in the Park this year.
"I'm looking forward to tasting some of the delicious entries in the village's first-ever Great Village Bake-Off. It's always encouraging to see initiatives like this coming together that allow people to practice and show off their baking skills."
Peasedown's Great Village Bake-Off is being organised by the recently-formed Peasedown St John W.I., in partnership with the festival team. The competition is open to all and includes three categories: Tray Bakes, Muffins and Traditional Cakes. Contestants may enter all three categories, with all entries being delivered to the W.I. in the Beacon Hall between 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, 13th June. All entries must be delivered ready for display, and all contestants must include a description of the entry.
Richard Bertinet will taste and judge the entries – with the winners being named at 6 p.m. in front of the Party in the Park festival main stage. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category and the ultimate champion.
Kathy Thomas, Secretary of the newly-formed Peasedown W.I., said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for the men, women and children of the village to show us their baking skills and to have them on display in Beacon Hall and then to be judged by a high class baker."
