Competitors in the first ever Funguy 500 Rally crossed the finish line bang on target on Friday, 21st March, raising an impressive £2,273.49 for Help for Heroes – and now plans are already taking shape for the next rally in 2015.

Local teams, Mustang Silly and Team Monster, both made it across the Funguy 500 finish line in Paris after completing a gruelling 3,510km route around France in bargain vehicles. The rally incorporates many challenges and forfeits along the way, all masterminded by organiser, Jennie Sleep, from Paulton.

Funguy 500 is the brainchild of Jennie and her husband, Mark, who wanted to create a rally that was all about driving on amazing roads and seeing awesome sights, while at the same time raising money for charity. Competitors were tasked with capturing daily photographs along five themes: Comedy, Culture, Creative, Costume and Company.

When asked if there were any low points, all competitors agreed that the last day on the fast roads was not as fun as the technical driving of the previous days, but they all felt a huge sense of achievement when they were welcomed home by family, friends and supporters on Saturday, 22nd March.

Thanks to the generosity of a number of local individuals and businesses, the rally's final presentation and fundraising evening was a huge success. Held at the Travellers Rest pub, in Pensford, on Sunday, 30th March, the evening included a slideshow of rally photographs and a raffle, with prizes donated by various individuals and local businesses. The evening also unveiled that the overall winning team was Mustang Silly, whose two members received trophies for gaining the highest number of points.

A cheque for £2,273.49 was presented to Help for Heroes representative, Emma Webb, while in the background, an internet auction of team Mustang Silly's vehicle reached a nail-biting finale online to raise even more!
