Some welcome new members came along to Chilcompton Golden Hour’s October meeting when Anji Scofield talked about her ‘Life in Uniform’.

Starting in 1966, there were several uniforms on display with buckles, badges and belts as she moved from trainee nurse to Ward Sister. In 1980 Anji joined Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force as a flight nursing officer, bringing injured and ill soldiers, sailors and airmen home. She spent time abroad in Iraq, Cyprus and the Middle East necessitating many uniforms ranging from a desert dress to a nuclear/biological warfare suit.

Anji took part in the Festival of Britain Remembrance, escorted veterans to the D-Day Landings 40th Anniversary and accompanied widows to India to see their husbands’ graves. There was an abundance of medals and photos on display, showing her numerous meetings with the Royal Family at official events.

Golden Hour President, Shirley Obern, thanked Anji for a fascinating talk. There will be a quiz in November and members were reminded to bring a wrapped present next month for the Christmas raffle.
