Children from Shoscombe Church School were given the opportunity to stretch their legs last week as part of a district-wide cross-country competition.

The event, held remotely at or near each individual school, saw schools across the Midsomer Norton area taking part. School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “Last week, an enthusiastic group of children from years 5 and 6 trouped up to the Shoscombe Village Hall to take part, remotely, in the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership cross country competition.

“They had to run 1.4 km, which was 5 and 3/4 laps of the field. Supported by parents, they all ran with great determination and resilience. Despite their tired legs and puffed out lungs, they all found a sprint for the final stretch.

“The times have been collated and sent off to be added to the list with the other schools, so we wait to see how we compare! The team displayed great sportsmanship and team spirit and we are immensely proud of their efforts.”

Other sporting and fundraising activities recently held have included Pumpkin Trails, mufti days for Children in Need, virtual school productions and sponsored walks.
