The place to be on the evening of 1st December was by the Miners' Wheel outside Radstock Museum where Radstock Town Council had organised a start to the festive season with an event to turn on the lights, which were synchronised to come on simultaneously with those provided by B&NES Council.
Cllr Lesley Mansell, Chair of Radstock Town Council said: "Two very special guests, James Llewellyn and Taylor Clake, pupils from St Nicholas primary school, joined me to turn on the lights. This is an important time of year for children, so it was most appropriate that they took a prominent role in this year's ceremony."
They were joined by around 200 children, their parents, friends and Town Councillors, Liz Derl-Davis, Eleanor Jackson (also B&NES Councillor), Anne-Marie Jovcic-Sas, Fflyff McLaren, Gael Doswell and Peter Sas, with Deputy Chair of B&NES Council Neil Butters, Cllr Simon Allen, B&NES and , of course, Santa.
They all joined in singing carols, led by the Somer Valley Singers who were accompanied by award-winning Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band. Radstock Baptist Church provided drinks and mince pies.
The Town Council was the main organiser, but the success was also due to Alison Wells, B&NES Community Projects, St Johns Ambulance, Joanne Parsons, Co-op First Aider, as well as all the performers in the choir and the band, Radstock Baptist Church and Santa," added Cllr Mansell: "They all contributed to a wonderful sense of community spirit."
