December has proved to be a busy month for Dunkerton WI.

On December 7th we held our annual Christmas meal at the King William Pub in Tunley. The food was excellent and we were all in awe of the way so many meals of such high quality were served all at the same time!

On December 10th St Peter’s Church in Camerton was the venue for the Camdyke WI group Carol Concert, led by the Rev’d Tony Roake, with Kathleen Dando playing the organ. The familiar traditional readings and carols provided just the right atmosphere for the start of the festive Christmas season.

The service was followed by hot mulled punch and delicious mince pies, provided by the various WIs in the group, and together we raised £120 for local charity, SWALLOW. This is in addition to donations of £150 each to charities SWALLOW and the Friends of Young Carers BANES, arising from fundraising during the year by Dunkerton WI from our regular sales tables.

On December 14th we held our normal monthly meeting in Tunley Hall, which was followed by a demonstration of all the amazing ways that Polymer clay (Fimo) can be used. Sue Mills, who lives in Princes Risborough, came to be our guest presenter for the evening. She showed us how this easy to buy medium can be used to make beautiful jewellery, boxes and ornaments in the most vibrant colours. Although she made it look simple, her techniques have taken a lot of time and hard work to master.

Over mulled wine and mince pies after the formal meeting had ended, there was a lot of chatter and members had the opportunity to see some of Sue’s completed pieces, which many bought as unique Christmas gifts.

Our next meeting is at Tunley Recreation Centre on Tuesday, 11th January starting at 7.15 pm. Our speaker for the evening is Martin Horler, who will talk about the role of the Royal Mail Guard during the coaching era.

If you are interested in joining our friendly group you can come along as a guest, but in the current Covid situation it would be wise to check by email for any changes to our plans. Email: [email protected] or phone: 01761 470995. Jan Binns
