The community arts project, DNA Arts, will be creating an illuminated spectacle in Radstock town centre on Saturday, 29th October as part of ‘Light the Night’, an outdoor community arts event and Lantern Parade – and it wants you to be involved.

As part of the week-long arts project, children, parents and people of all ages are invited to take part in a series of free lantern making workshops during the week of 24th October. Working alongside professionals, members of the community will design and craft the lanterns that will form the illuminated parade and finale event in St Nicholas’ Church field. Workshops take place at Westfield Sports and Community Centre on Monday, 24th and Whisty Community Centre on Wednesday, 26th October from 10 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m. There will also be a special pumpkin carving workshop on Thursday, 27th October at Radstock Methodist Church from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

All are welcome to join in with the parade. Members of the public are asked to meet at Victoria Hall at 6 p.m. for a 6.30 p.m. start. A walking Street Band, performers from Desperate Men and the Natural Theatre, plus three large animated puppets will lead the parade through Radstock Town Centre using pedestrian crossings and pavements. The parade will stop at the War Memorial for an atmospheric fire-lit display before arriving at the finale event at St Nicholas Church field. The parade will be greeted by an ensemble of acoustic musicians, choirs and performers, who will set the mood of the evening which is open to the public from 7 p.m. – 8.30 p.m.

Chloe Edgell, from DNA Arts says: “Light the Night was created to bring a unique and exciting alternative to the usual activities around this time of year. Working with the community, local musicians, choirs, the Desperate Men and the Natural Theatre companies we will create a magical, outdoor parade that celebrates the community and reflects the history of Radstock.”

DNA Arts is looking for members of the community to be part of the parade as stewards or as torchbearers. If you would like to be part of the event, please get in touch by emailing: [email protected]
