A CARE home in Paulton is calling on local people to help make the 100th birthday of one of its residents a day to remember.
Bloomfield Care Centre put out an appeal to people asking them to shower Bertha with as many birthday wishes as possible for her centenary next month.
The care home are making this request as they say that Bertha has no surviving family or close friends nearby.
Bertha has lived a life of quiet strength, compassion, and service. Born near London, she lost her mother to tuberculosis and becoming an orphan by the age of eight.
These early experiences of caring for her ill mother inspired her lifelong calling: to become a nurse. Her nursing journey took her around the globe, with time spent working and travelling in New Zealand, Australia and Kenya.
Upon returning to the UK, Bertha continued her work as a nurse at the Royal United Hospital before retiring.
Now living at Bloomfield Care Centre, Bertha has sadly lost her eyesight and is physically frail. But her spirit remains strong, and her presence continues to inspire those around her.
A member of Bloomfield’s care team said: "Bertha may not have family nearby, but she has touched so many lives through her work and her incredible journey.
"We would love for the community to come together and show her how valued she is. A simple card, message, or birthday wish would mean the world to her."
Bloomfield Care Centre are calling out for as many people to send messages in, regardless of whether they know Bertha personally or not. Messages can be sent to the address: Bertha's Birthday, Bloomfield Care Centre, Salisbury Road, Paulton, Bristol, BS39 7BD.
Alternatively, birthday wishes can be shared digitally via Bloomfield Care Centre’s Facebook page, or by emailing them to [email protected].
