Paulton’s Ward Councillors for B&NES, Liz Hardman and Grant Johnson, were unlikely to be the only ones jumping for joy that Phillis Hill has now reopened after essential work.

Thrilled by the road reopening last weekend, the Councillors held a quick ‘unofficial’ opening of the newly-resurfaced road, which closed as of 22nd July and has been causing heavy congestion in the surrounding areas ever since. The Councillors say they have been inundated with emails complaining about the closure.

Liz Hardman told The Journal: “It was worth celebrating after enduring four weeks of traffic jams and diversions. It has seemed like an eternity that Phillis Hill has been closed. It’s surprising how much disturbance can be caused from a closure like this, and I understand many residents’ frustration. Unfortunately, the closure was necessary, and now we have a lovely resurfaced link once more between Paulton and Midsomer Norton.”

Grant Johnson added: “The roads through Paulton have been so quiet these last few weeks, and it was great to see the amount of people taking the time to walk the length of the road instead of using the car.

“I don’t blame them either, as we all saw how bad the traffic congestion was. If there is one positive, it is that our valued environment got a well-deserved break from the normal air and noise pollution it is used to. Although not an official opening, Liz and myself did have a lot of fun taking the photo and we are extremely glad the closure has come to an end!”
