Feeling frustrated and helpless watching a young, close family member battle cancer, Amie Towells, from Paulton, recently had her 28” long hair shaved off to make a wig for The Little Princess Trust.
But Amie didn’t just go to the hairdresser to have it all taken off. Her head was shaved, in a ballgown, at the charity ball she organised at Farrington Golf Club. The deal was that her target of £2,500 had to be reached before the Ball or the hair did not get cut. To date, she has raised over £12,000 and had made £9,200 by the day of the ball.
Amie says: “We’ve all been devastated by the Big C in one way or another, whether it is personally or through the ripple effects as it hits our loved ones and our lives.
“I decided that maybe, just maybe, I could help. My head of hair, which I scrape back daily, could bring such joy to a young cancer patient that has lost their hair through treatment.
“All fundraising has been split 50/50 between my late dear friend’s memorial fund at the RUH Forever Friends Appeal and Breast Cancer Care charities.”
Amie would like to say a big thank you to Farrington Golf Club, Bravo Wedding Singers, Upfront and Casual, Carol Gardiner, Selfie Mirror, South West, Mulberry, John Newport Photography and everyone that donated to the raffle – from local pubs, restaurants, businesses, Instagram companies, accountants, friends and family. There was an auction held on the night which included a one night stay at the Swan Hotel, Wells, with champagne and chocolates on arrival, dinner and breakfast, alongside prizes donated by Bath Rugby, the Robins, local artist, Roger Jones and local beautician, Danielle Turner.
