Around 220 fossil hunters gathered for the Somerset Coalfield Life at Radstock Museum’s Annual Fossil Hunt during half term.

The museum provided safety goggles and the children brought small hammers with them to split open the rocks to reveal the hidden fossils.

Expert Geologist, Simon Carpenter and the team of volunteers from Radstock Museum, helped identify the fossils that were found and gave tips on preserving them. They had been hidden away for around 330,000,000 years! Everyone left with bags of fossils of ferns and other plants, such as horsetail.

The museum would like to thank everyone for coming along, and if you would like to see more, there are currently dinosaur bone fossils on display at the museum until the middle of January 2018. Why not pay a visit and see them!
