A request to include the details of a veteran who gave his life in the Korean War on the town’s War Memorial has prompted Midsomer Norton Town Council to ask the people of the town to let them know about any veterans of conflicts since the Second World War whose details they might wish to be included.
After being contacted by a resident, Mr David Carter, the Council agreed that there were potentially other families in and from the town who might wish to put forward suggestions for the Memorial.
Anyone who wishes to take this opportunity to make a nomination is invited to do so by contacting the Town Clerk – by email to: [email protected] or by post to: Town Clerk, Midsomer Norton Town Council, Town Hall, The Island Midsomer Norton, BA3 2HQ.
The Town Council plans to consider requests at their meeting in December, so any nominations should be received by 30th November 2016. Members of the Town Council also agreed to provide support to the Royal British Legion in planning and managing the annual Remembrance Sunday event in the town. Councillor Alastair Slade and the Town Clerk will work with the RBL and other groups to ensure that the event can continue.
“The Remembrance Parade is an important event for many people in the town.” said Cllr Slade, “We think that the time building up to this year’s event on Sunday, 13th November is a perfect opportunity to seek suggestions for the details of other veterans to be added to the Memorial.”
