Chloe, who is currently undertaking her ‘Speaking Out’ badge at Midsomer Norton Brownies, wrote a letter and delivered it to 628 houses across Withies Park Housing estate (including Staddlestones area), asking residents to sign a petition to reduce speed limits in her area.

Chloe, who set up the petition on Change.org, said: “For my ‘Speaking Out’ badge, I have decided to write to B&NES Council about the fast speed that some cars travel on the Withies Park estate where I live in Midsomer Norton.

“I would like it to be safer for children walking to school and think that it would be better if the speed limit is reduced to 20mph.

“The centre of Midsomer Norton is 20mph, but the speed changes to 30mph just past my school on Redfield Road.

“I hope that you might like to support me – driving faster can be a disaster!”

Chloe’s Mum, Sharon, told The Journal: “She has certainly found the residents to be receptive and had 140 signatures for her petition, just from the letters.

“It was lovely to see that someone had also written a letter to The Journal last week in support of her petition.

“As a seven-year-old with no access to social media or email, writing a letter to the residents was the only way she could get her idea out to our neighbourhood.”

Once Chloe’s petition has gained more support, the final stage of her task will be to present it to B&NES Council, in the hope they will listen to her local drive for change.
