Parents of two local primary schools have had the opportunity to find out more about what their children are learning, thanks to a series of ‘Maths Cafés’.

St Julian’s School in Wellow and Shoscombe Church School respectively opened up their doors so that parents could sit with their children in class to learn about maths! Headteacher of both schools, Ruth Noall, said: “Maths Cafés are fun, enjoyable, and allow children and their parents to socialise together whilst learning mathematics at the same time.

“In both Wellow and Shoscombe, it was an opportunity for children to share with their parents what they are learning at school, and for parents to find out more about the maths curriculum.”

Tea, coffee and biscuits were served at the Maths Cafés in both schools. Maths specialists were also on hand to answer questions and offer help to any child, or parent, with some of the more challenging questions!

“Parents were also able to learn about the apparatus we use to support children’s understandings,” Ruth added. “Parents loved doing maths games with their children as it allowed them to see how confident their children were in the subject and thanked us for making the point that we all need to speak positively about maths.”
