This World Teacher’s Day (October 5th), Bath Spa University is inviting former students who completed a Certificate of Education before 31st December 1981 at one of its predecessor colleges, to apply for an Honorary Degree.

Predecessor colleges of Bath Spa University include Bath Academy of Art, Bath College of Domestic Science and Newton Park Teacher Training College.

The invitation is also an opportunity to share memories of time spent on campus – photos, stories, experiences – all memories are welcome.

“We really wanted to do something that highlights the fantastic work teachers do in our community, to recognise their contribution to the profession.

“Having educated teachers at Bath Spa University for over seventy years, we would like to honour our earliest alumni through the offer of Honorary Degrees,” Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou, Head of the School of Education said.

“We would like to encourage anyone who fits the criteria to come forward as soon as possible – the intention is to host a ceremony, Covid restrictions allowing, for those selected for the Honorary Degree.”

Anyone who takes up the invitation to come forward will be asked to include a copy of their original certificate, or if this is no longer in their possession, as much information as possible about their main subject of study, so student records can be consulted.

Any albums, photographs, stories, paperwork and other reference materials would also be very welcome, to make sure as many memories as possible are preserved.

“This initiative is also a celebration of Bath Spa University, the colleges that came before, and all the lives it has touched,” added Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou.

Those who fit the criteria should complete the form on the Bath Spa University website: www.bathspa.ac.uk/honorarydegrees
