Children at Shoscombe Church School had the opportunity to mark British Science Week recently with some coordinated tasks and activities focussing on the environment.
British Science Week, run by the British Science Association is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events and activities across the UK for people of all ages.
Shoscombe School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “As part of British Science Week, we took the opportunity to support children’s mental health by doing lots of planting within the school grounds as well as setting up some growing experiments and a sunflower competition.
Mental health has been hugely impacted over the last year, so outside, garden-based activities for children can be very therapeutic and beneficial.”
British Science Week provides a platform to stimulate and support teachers, professionals, science communicators and the general public to produce and participate in events and activities.
Shoscombe Church School also used the week’s theme to announce their involvement in the international, Green Flag Eco-Schools Award.
Ruth added: “The programme is designed to raise environmental awareness amongst young people and in England it is run by environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy.
“Our school is now part of this global community working to create environmental change for the benefit of our children and future generations.”
