Parents, staff and members of the local community recently undertook a four-day project to reinvigorate the playground and outdoor spaces at Chewton Mendip Primary School.Parents from the PTA had noticed the grounds were
beginning to look tired and therefore decided to co-ordinate a grand makeover,
completely transforming and improving several areas across the school site.
The children are now enjoying new, brightly coloured fencing, a ten-foot wide chalkboard, a freshly planted sensory garden for small world play, a giant guttering marble run, additional storage areas, a pallet kitchen for role play and much more!
Chair of the PTA, Sarah Ryrie, remarked: “It’s been brilliant to see so many
families get involved. We have achieved far more than we ever thought possible. One local resident came here for the whole four days to help out and we had great support from local businesses, Dobbies and Buildbase, so thanks to them, too!”
Headteacher, Clare Rice, was especially pleased with the result, explaining: “With the continuing squeeze on school budgets, it is becoming harder to prioritise things like the school grounds.
However, I am thrilled by the results of the playground makeover – this will have an impact on our outdoor learning, as well as showing off the school’s beautiful setting to its full potential.” Sarah Peel
