Children at Shoscombe Church School have raised £250 as part of their World Book Day celebrations.
The funding will be used to pay for books for children who are ill in hospital.
World Book Day’s international mission is to give every child and young person a book of their own. It is also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and a celebration of reading. In fact, it is the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
Shoscombe School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “Thanks to all the children, staff and parents who took part in World Book Day. Our Readathon raised £250 which will be used to provide children in local hospitals with a brand new book each.
“Congratulations to some of our pupils; William, Oscar, Tilly and Arielle, who read the most times over the Readathon. You all did a fantastic job! Thanks also to everyone who put so much effort into their costumes.
You all looked marvellous!”
The Oldfield Park Bookshop donated prizes for the day, with £300 worth of books being sold. They have kindly donated £150 worth of books to the school, and have also generously offered to sponsor Shoscombe’s next author event.
