A well-known and popular author of children’s story books has visited Shoscombe Church School to open their library after refurbishment works.

Laura James, author of The Adventures of Pug, met with pupils, staff and parents. She was provided with a first-hand look at the facilities and invited to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Shoscombe Church School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “It was fantastic to have Laura with us recently to open our new library. All the children love her books and find her a huge inspiration.

“The Adventures of Pug have captivated the imagination of thousands of children across the UK. They are exciting, enthralling and enjoyable to read!”

£6,000 to purchase new library books was raised, thanks to the hard work and efforts of the Friends of Shoscombe School Association last year.

Laura James’ love of storytelling began at an early age and led her to read an MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. Her interest in all things nautical comes from her father, a retired Naval Officer.

The Adventures of Pug are based on the antics of her own dogs, Brian and Florence. Together, the three of them live in a tiny cottage just outside Bath.

When Laura visited the school, she ran a writing workshop for all pupils in Years 2 to 6. Every child wore a hat linked to one of the Pug books. The children are now inspired to create their very own pug stories!
