A local primary school has been given the green light to open a new Nursery Class this September for pre-school aged children.

The Department for Education has granted permission for Shoscombe Church School to lower the age it can welcome children from three years.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be opening a brand-new Nursery at the School in September. Acorn Class will cater for children aged three and upwards, which will help ensure a seamless transition from Nursery into Reception Class.

“The younger children will be able to get to know the school and will start building those relationships sooner with teachers and support staff. Thanks to the specialist staff at our school, nursery children will have the support of an outstanding specialist Early Years teacher and teaching assistant, who is trained in Makaton, a communication style used to support language development.

“We will also offer the pre-school children Forest School, specialist music lessons and PE lessons, plus all the facilities the school offers, including the use of the school Breakfast Club.”
