As part of National Careers Week, Welton Primary School recently invited volunteers from the world of work to talk to the children about their jobs.

The day began with a ‘guess my job’ assembly, where the children had to try and work out the jobs by only asking yes/no questions!

This was followed by interactive sessions in classrooms, where the children had the chance to find out more from the visitors.

Headteacher, John Snell, who organised the event as an ambassador for Primary Futures, reported that it was another great success, following many similar events hosted in the past. He said, “In many cases, I believe children actually have very good aspirations for the future.

“However, I want to tap into this enthusiasm and provide opportunities for the children to experience a range of careers that they wouldn’t necessarily have considered.”

This year, the school welcomed a Submariner, an App Designer, Plastic Surgeon, Architect, Company Chairman and Crown Prosecutor to the school.

Paul Goddard, from the Royal Navy, commented: “Welton is my favourite

school that I attend and I was bursting with excitement as I drove through the gates. I hope that I have managed to inspire some of the children to think about their future. Please carry on doing what you do!”

From the comments from all who were involved, Mr Snell is planning to host another similar event in the near future and asks that if anyone is interested in visiting the school to talk about their jobs, to please make contact with the school office on: 01761 413131.
