On Tuesday, 26th March, Longvernal Primary School’s Sycamore class visited Radstock Museum.
Everyone looked splendid dressed as Victorians, from gentlemen to chimney sweeps. We were captivated by the knowledgeable and fun volunteers who took us back in time to experience Victorian life. In the schoolroom, we learnt a song in a round and heard about their stricter discipline. Some were surprised that the cane wasn’t as thick as they had expected!
We visited a blacksmith and the Co-op. Matty H. and Brandon helpfully pretended to be horses to show how a horse’s shoe is fitted! At the Co-op, we were inspired to hear how 28 people saved their pennies until they could open a shop with food that wasn’t expensive.
We were challenged to examine various artefacts and guess their function. We explored Victorian ice skates, poison bottles, and hair curlers. The iron was very heavy as it was made of solid iron. We felt as though we had spent a morning in a Victorian town and have learned many details about life at that time.
